Our
Story

Welcome to Beasts Armoured Combat, a dynamic hub for medieval armoured combat enthusiasts aged 18 and above. Our club, under the expert guidance of coach and team captain Colin Campbell, with over 20 years of sword-fighting experience, offers an exhilarating journey into the world of medieval combat.

In April 2023, our prowess was showcased internationally at the Buhurt League World Cup in Libušín, Czech Republic. Competing against teams globally, we battled through seven challenging teams in our pool, ultimately triumphing over France's top team and facing the world-renowned US 'Team Dominus' in the finals.

Our community is a welcoming space for individuals from diverse backgrounds, including many on the ADHD and ASD spectrum. We provide an environment where members can flourish in a thrilling sport, fostering a strong sense of belonging and camaraderie.

From a modest beginning, our men's and women's teams have rapidly risen to become Australian champions in just 18 months. Despite our success, we've retained our core values as a close-knit and grounded community united by our love for the sport.

Safety is paramount at Beasts Armoured Combat. We're dedicated to promoting the power of controlled violence within a safe, respectful, and inclusive setting. Our club is committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of experience level, can enjoy the sport while adhering to stringent safety standards.

Join us and discover the unique, fast-growing world of medieval armoured combat. Whether you're new to the sport or a seasoned warrior, Beasts Armoured Combat offers a place for you to explore your passion in a safe and welcoming environment.

Our Values

Consent

At Beasts Armoured Combat, mutual consent and respect in training is a cornerstone of our club values. Before each training session, we have a conversation with our training partner to ensure that we are both comfortable with the level of violence involved. This creates a safe and inclusive environment for everyone to participate in the sport of medieval armoured combat.

No Train Shame

At Beasts Armoured Combat, self-care is a top priority. We believe that 'No Train Shame' should be practiced and lived by every member. If at any time you feel the need to take a break and recharge, we fully support and encourage you to do so. Your well-being is always the most important factor in our training sessions.

Teamwork

At Beasts Armoured Combat, we believe in fostering a supportive and inclusive community where experienced members are always willing to share their skills and help new starters succeed. We're all here to grow and experience the thrill of medieval armoured combat together.

Commitment

At BEASTS Armoured Combat, we believe in the importance of consistent training to be the best we can be. That's why we not only train together as a team during our group sessions, but also encourage individual training each and every day.

We are dedicated to supporting our members in their training, which is why we provide free training plans and video guides, and our tight-knit community is always available to offer advice and support in our group chat.

Respect

At Beasts Armoured Combat, we hold ourselves and each other to the highest standards of respect. This includes respect for ourselves, our teammates, the equipment we use, and the venues where we train. By upholding these values, we ensure that everyone can enjoy the sport of medieval armoured combat in a safe and inclusive environment.

Communication

Vocal Courage in the List: At Beasts Armoured Combat, we understand that communicating effectively in the List can be a challenge, especially while wearing heavy armor. That's why we work on developing not only our communication skills, but also our vocal courage. We challenge ourselves to communicate loudly and clearly, allowing us to perform as a unified team on the battlefield. Join us in pushing the limits and elevating our game with strong and confident communication.

Shield Background

Our Coach

Colin is a lively American who started stick fighting at the young age of 13 and has since competed globally in various medieval combat sports, including Medieval Armoured Combat, Armoured Combat Sports, Historical European Martial Arts, Empire of Medieval Pursuit, Society of Creative Anachronisms, and countless other foam fighting organisations.

Colin is known for his sharp wit, relentless energy, and love of telling bad dad jokes, but despite his loud personality, he always manages to make people laugh. He's a fierce competitor, having been part of "Team USA 1" and participating in the HMB tournament "Battle of the Nations" in Prague 2016, Spain 2017, Italy 2018, and Serbia 2019. He was also invited to the prestigious Castle Belmonte in Spain in 2015, where he placed 3rd among ten men. Colin has won numerous awards and accolades, including the Australia Thunderbolt Cup 2018 all vs all winner and first place sword and shield champion. He was also a member of the first five-vs-five team, "Renegades". He trained with the AMCF (Australian Medieval Combat Federation) in 2018, taught at multiple training events, and was part of the winning team "Iron Dragon" at the ACS 2019 Central Conference and "The Warlords" at the ACS 2020 National Selections. Colin then moved to Australia and achieved second place in the AMCF National Selections tournament with the team "Queensland Brawlers".

Colin is now the enthusiastic head coach of the Brisbane-based club, "Beasts". As a lifelong dedicated sword-fighter, he wants nothing more than to pass on his passion for medieval combat to people from all walks of life. He firmly believes that fun and positivity are key to successful learning, and incorporates these principles into his training methods and daily life.
